Our team is made up of a range of DBAs, data engineers, application developers, solution analysts, delivery managers, and technical architects. We are looking for an Associate Data Engineer to support the development and delivery of our secondary care data service within our data management service.

The role is a full time, permanent opportunity. The team is based across offices in Durham, Teesside and Sheffield. Your base can be in either location as preferred, with some remote working also available. There may be occasional requirements to travel regionally or nationally depending upon the requirements of our customers.

Main duties of the job

Working with a team of Data Engineers, you will support them to ensure the smooth delivery of day-to-day business operations, to ensure a reliable, efficient service is provided to our wide variety of clients from across the country. This will primarily focus on our Secondary Uses Service (SUS) data service but there will also be opportunity to get involved with our other data service deliveries and projects across the department.

As an Associate Data Engineer you will need to possess strong database development skills, good communication and planning skills, have a passion for all things digital and a drive and determination to succeed. You will make use of the Microsoft technology stack, including SSIS and SQL Server, as well as PowerShell, Python or similar scripting solutions to automate data processing. Knowledge of secondary care datasets and national tariffs is also highly desirable.

You will be accustomed to working within a complex, fast-paced environment where data and technology plays a key role in the organisation.

  • Proficient in the use of SQL and scripting solutions to manipulate and transform large and complex relational datasets.
  • Developed knowledge of enterprise level data platforms including Microsoft SQL Server or equivalent products.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of information governance standards for data security and confidentiality and an understanding of their application in practice.

  • Professional qualification at degree level in an information related discipline or equivalent experience including a combination of data, digital or technology knowledge/experience or qualification.

  • Experience of operating within a formal and structured data environment utilising formal change control arrangements.
