- JOB SUMMARY
- Delivery of high quality, compassionate care whilst undertaking specific clinical and care tasks under the direction of a registered nurse (or other nominated registered care professional) with a focus on promoting good health and independence
- Work as part of the PCNs multidisciplinary team (MDT), delivering a high standard of care that focuses on the direct needs of the patient
- Work with a supervisor to take responsibility for developing own clinical competence, leadership, and reflective practice skills within the workplace, during placement and through attending the Nursing Associate Training Programme
- Develop the ability to work without direct supervision, at times delivering care independently in line with the individuals defined plan of care, within the parameters of the nursing associate role, accessing clinical and care advice when needed
- Develop the skills and knowledge to provide direct care to patients and families which may include;
- performing and recording clinical observations such as blood pressure, temperature, respirations, pulse and oxygen saturation.
- undertaking of flu vaccinations, ECGs, venepuncture, and other relevant clinical tasks as required by the Practice, in line with the competencies of the role,
- supporting individuals and their families and carers when faced with unwelcome news and life-changing diagnoses, for example by providing relevant information on the diagnosis, signposting patients to further information, or referral to social prescribing link workers etc,
- discussing and sharing information with registered nurses and the MDT on patients health conditions, activities, and responses; and developing an understanding of caring and supporting people with dementia, mental health conditions, and learning disabilities.
You will have access to appropriate clinical supervision and an appropriate named individual in the Practice to provide general advice and support on a day-to-day basis.
This role is designed to bridge the gap between a Healthcare Assistant and a Registered Nurse. Previous clinical experience is desirable but is not essential. We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic, and resilient individual to undertake a 2-year level 5 apprenticeship ending in registration with the NMC as a qualified Nurse Associate.
As a Trainee Nursing Associate, you will gain clinical experience across a range of specialities. You will work alongside a range of clinical professionals to develop the skills and knowledge required to complete training and to ensure the delivery of outstanding person-centred care.
This is a clinical role working under the supervision of the Practice Nurse and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols;
The Trainee Nurse Associate will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.
Your duties are likely to include:
Developing understanding of all elements of the nursing process and be able to assist the registered nurse in the on-going assessment, planning, management and evaluation of patient care
Undertaking clinical tasks including venepuncture, wound care, and carrying out ECGs
Managing own clinics
Performing and recording clinical observations such as blood pressure, temperature, respiration rate, pulse and oxygen saturation
Health promotion
Discussing and sharing information with Practice Nurse, GPs and the MDT on a patient's condition
Ensuring the privacy, dignity and safety of individuals is maintained at all times
Recognising issues relating to safeguarding vulnerable children and adults and reporting any problems or raising any concerns
This role involves study at university and requires various assignments, tests, exams, practice learning placements to meet the approved NMC program. It is essential that all elements are achieved.

To be considered for this position, you will be required to meet the following requirements:
Experience of working in a healthcare setting is desirable, however, not essential
Applicants must hold level 2 qualifications in English and Maths (GSCE Grade A-C / 4-9 / functional skills level 2 or equivalent) and can provide evidence in the form of a certificate or equivalent.
Have a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and Occupational Health clearance
Hold the values and behaviours required for the Nursing Associate Apprenticeship
To undertake the Trainee Nurse Associate Apprenticeship, applicants must be contracted for a minimum of 30 hours per week
2. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
To work under the supervision of a registered practitioner/nurse, as a developmental role this will be both directly observed practice and supervision leading towards indirect but delegated duties as the post holder progresses through their training
Liaise with staff and service users
To provide a point of contact for service users
Provide effective communication and problem solving both face to face and via telephone
Be sympathetic and sensitive to the requirements of staff, service users when communicating by telephone or face to face, including dealing with a difficult situation
Attend departmental meetings on a regular basis
Contribute to building effective teamwork in exchanging views, ideas and communicating effectively
Be able to problem solve and provide alternative solutions
Recognise situations that should be referred to the Line Manager and take prompt and appropriate action
Arrange transport as required
Work collaboratively as part of an integrated team
Work within and keep up to date with National and Trust legislation, guidelines, policies, procedures, protocols and code of conduct and ensure they are adhered to across the team
Participate in and contribute to the effective introduction of new systems and initiatives leading to the improvement and development of patient services
Have a personal duty of care for all equipment and resources used
Maintain stock control such as stationery, supplies, equipment and uniforms
3. COMMUNICATION
Effectively communicates sensitive condition related information to patients, relatives and carers
Provide and receive highly complex, sensitive and sometimes contentious information and occasionally deal with situations which are hostile or contentious
Use developed consultation, negotiation and conflict management skills which require empathy, reassurance and persuasive skills to overcome barriers to acceptance
Regularly communicates service-related information to healthcare partners, the practice manager, clinical and administrative staff, patients, relatives and carers
Builds and communicates effective working relationships with statutory and voluntary organisations for the benefit of patient care and to facilitate good working relationships
Participate in team meetings and when required deliver training and presentations

5. MANAGE AND USE INFORMATION
Alert other team members to issues of quality and risk. Take part in the practice Significant Event Audit process and commit to continuous learning
Make effective use of the clinical medical record system by ensuring the consistent and accurate entering of data and read codes
6. WORKING CONDITIONS
Frequent exposure to body fluids, wounds, fleas and lice
Occasional exposure to aggressive behaviour which is mitigated via our zero-tolerance policy
Frequent use of VDU equipment.
