Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic and innovative Primary Care Network. We are looking for a motivated and dedicated Trainee Nursing Associate to train and work in one of our practices. The intention is for the Trainee Nursing Associate to be located in Buttercross Health Centre, Somerton.

This role is designed to bridge the gap between a Healthcare Assistant and Registered Nurse. Previous clinical experience is desirable but not essential. We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and resilient individual to undertake a 2-year level 5 apprenticeship ending in registration with the NMC as a qualified Nurse Associate. You will work for the PCN but will operate from one of the practices.

Main duties of the job

As a Trainee Nursing Associate, you will gain clinical experience across a range of specialities. You will work alongside a range of clinical professionals to develop the skills and knowledge required to complete training and to ensure the delivery of outstanding person-centred care.

This is a clinical role working under the supervision of the Practice Nurse and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols.

The Trainee Nurse Associate will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.

Your duties are likely to include:

Developing understanding of all elements of the nursing process and be able to assist the registered nurse in the on-going assessment, planning, management and evaluation of patient care

Undertaking clinical tasks including venepuncture, wound care, and carrying out ECGs

Managing own clinics

Performing and recording clinical observations such as blood pressure, temperature, respiration rate, pulse and oxygen saturation

Health promotion

Discussing and sharing information with Practice Nurse, GPs and the MDT on a patient's condition

Ensuring the privacy, dignity and safety of individuals is maintained at all times

Recognising issues relating to safeguarding vulnerable children and adults and reporting any problems or raising any concerns

  1. JOB SUMMARY
  • Delivery of high quality, compassionate care whilst undertaking specific clinical and care tasks under the direction of a registered nurse (or other nominated registered care professional) with a focus on promoting good health and independence
  • Work as part of the PCNs multidisciplinary team (MDT), delivering a high standard of care that focuses on the direct needs of the patient
  • Work with a supervisor to take responsibility for developing own clinical competence, leadership, and reflective practice skills within the workplace, during placement and through attending the Nursing Associate Training Programme
  • Develop the ability to work without direct supervision, at times delivering care independently in line with the individuals defined plan of care, within the parameters of the nursing associate role, accessing clinical and care advice when needed
  • Develop the skills and knowledge to provide direct care to patients and families which may include;

- performing and recording clinical observations such as blood pressure, temperature, respirations, pulse and oxygen saturation.

- undertaking of flu vaccinations, ECGs, venepuncture, and other relevant clinical tasks as required by the Practice, in line with the competencies of the role,

- supporting individuals and their families and carers when faced with unwelcome news and life-changing diagnoses, for example by providing relevant information on the diagnosis, signposting patients to further information, or referral to social prescribing link workers etc,

- discussing and sharing information with registered nurses and the MDT on patients health conditions, activities, and responses; and developing an understanding of caring and supporting people with dementia, mental health conditions, and learning disabilities.

You will have access to appropriate clinical supervision and an appropriate named individual in the Practice to provide general advice and support on a day-to-day basis.
