One Wight Health are advertising this vacancy on behalf of South Wight Medical Practice.
This role will be directly employed by South Wight Medical Practice.
We
are expanding our Administration Team and are looking to recruit a friendly, enthusiastic, and
hard-working Patient Advisor. Our Advisers are trained to provide healthcare
navigation and signposting in order to best meet our patient needs. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of medical
terminology, should be highly motivated and able to work under pressure and
must have excellent communication skills and a can-do attitude to carry out
their duties.
Our
Advisors are a vital part of the Practice team as the link between our patients
and the practice. The role involves dealing with patient queries both
face-to-face, as well as on the telephone, along with other administrative
duties relevant to the role.
Basic
computer skills, and the ability to be flexible are essential, as is your own
transport as you will be expected to work across all three sites. General
Practice experience is desirable but not essential as training will be
provided.

Job
Summary:
To receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the
appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and
effective way to the satisfaction of both the partners and patients.
Provide general assistance to the practice team and project a
positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or
via the telephone.
Main
Purpose of post:
To provide and maintain a point of contact for patients, other
health service professional and visitors and to act as a focal point of
communication between patients, doctors and other medical staff; also to
provide clerical support and operate the practice computer.

Medical Practice is a rural, dispensing GP Practice on the Isle of Wight. We
work between three sites in the villages of Godshill, Niton and Brighstone and
serve a population of just over 6000 patients. The practice is proud to be at

Main Duties and Responsibilities of the Post:
Dealing with Patients
- Be a first point of contact for patients both face to face and on the telephone, documenting as necessary
- Managing the appointments system; booking, amending and cancelling appointments and dealing with home visit requests in line with practice protocol
- Managing patients enquiries and giving simple advice or signposting to the appropriate service.
Administration
- Managing the filing system
- Managing the computer database
- Liaising with other Health Care professionals
- Handling patient registrations and adding them to the computer system
- Dealing with incoming mail/emails including e.consultations appropriately and in a timely manner
- Checking SystmOne tasks and processing accordingly
- Dealing with incoming hospital results in a timely manner
- Prioritising workload and using judgement and experience to determine the relevant urgency
Communication
- Establishing and maintaining effective lines of communication with the GPs and Practice Manager as well as communicating clearly and effectively with colleagues to aid the smooth running of the Practice
- Communicate with patients in a sensitive, professional and appropriate manner
Housekeeping:
- Opening and closing the practice premises and checking security, in line with practice protocol
- Ensuring GPs rooms are ready for the working day
- Tidying and re-stocking consulting rooms with leaflets as necessary
- Ensuring the reception and waiting areas are kept neat and tidy
- Maintain a tidy and professional work space
