This is a fantastic opportunity to join the friendly, supportive and innovative Medicine for Older People directorate. We are offering a full time, permanent post on C11 as Band 7 ward manager to lead an established team in the provision of safe personal and effective care.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for an individual who is highly motivated, committed and passionate to lead the team. You must have excellent communication skills and be able to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team; whilst being an excellent role model at all times. The post holder will have the necessary skills to step in to the role with the support of the Matron, with whom you will liaise closely with to ensure that the values of the ward and those of the Trust are upheld
As the ward Manager you would be responsible for the day to day running of the ward. This involves taking responsibility for the safe staffing of the ward, done in part by ensuring that the Eroster is always reflective of the ward situation; managing the budget; managing sickness and absence, and coaching and developing junior staff.
As the band 7 you will ensure that the daily Safety Huddles are completed, and that the ward round follows the SAFER model. C11 has three junior sisters who will help support you in the running and ongoing development of the ward. The ward team is well established, and although there are Nursing vacancies, C11 has a high staff retention rate.
The ward is extremely busy, but is calm well organised, and receptive to ongoing development. C11 is looking for a manager who can uphold the ethos of the ward whilst ensuring continued development of both staff and service
About us
The Medicine for Older People directorate's primary focus is to provide care for our older population who may have multiple co morbidities and require complex care. We provide a comprehensive service including Stroke, Frailty, Dementia and specialist care of older persons.
The team consists of a dedicated and passionate multidisciplinary team who are committed to making our Frailty Pathway a reference point of excellence in the Northwest and indeed in the country. Working in a progressive environment such as this will enable you expand your knowledge and skills to support your ongoing career development. We have 8 wards in total which includes 7 acute ward on the Royal Blackburn Hospital site and one specialist stroke rehabilitation ward at Pendle community Hospital. In January 2019 the Trust opened an Older Persons Rapid Assessment (OPRA) Unit, providing multidisciplinary comprehensive geriatric assessment as part of a developing acute frailty pathway. The OPRA Unit has 13 assessment areas, comprising of beds, trolleys and chairs and a 40 bedded ward. This forms our new Frailty Unit with consultant board rounds throughout the day and full Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) input. The aim of the unit is minimise hospital stay and maximise opportunities for recovery and independent living.
