Locally Employed Doctor (LED) ST1/2 in Trauma & Orthopaedics
Applications are invited for a LED ST1/2 doctor in Trauma and Orthopaedics at Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This is a 12 month fixed term post. The successful candidates will join a team of 12 consultants based at Leighton Hospital in Crewe.
Main duties of the job
Trauma surgery will be undertaken during the weekend by the on call team and any outstanding trauma will be operated on weekday trauma lists which are staffed by Consultants and Senior Trainees. These patients will be followed up on the Consultants Clinic
The on call applies to all emergency orthopaedic admissions and to all patients attending the Emergency Department who subsequently require fracture clinic or orthopaedic clinic appointments as a result of their visit to the Emergency Department. The Consultants in the Emergency Department continue to supervise the management of many patients attending their department, at their own discretion.
There is close liaison between the Emergency Department and the Orthopaedic Department. There are daily trauma meetings.
The department runs a Virtual Fracture Clinic (VFC) daily, Monday to Friday where all suitable attendances at ED are triaged by the Consultant for plans of care to be made. This service was recently shortlisted for a Health Service Journal (HSJ) value award
About us
Nestled in the heart of Cheshire, with green fields bordering the site on every side, Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust staff benefit from great work, home, education and leisure opportunities. The Trust has two sites, including its headquarters at Leighton Hospital in Crewe - 35 minutes from Manchester or Liverpool and less than an hour away from Birmingham, yet only half an hour away from the Peak District. There are some excellent day nurseries and schools in the local area, including 22 Ofsted "Outstanding Providers".
The Trust has a formal clinical partnership with its nearby University Hospital and benefits from local universities in Chester.
The Trust was rated as 'Good' by the CQC from its October 2014 and 2018 full inspections, has a good reputation for research and benefits from some of the very latest clinical facilities; these include Critical Care, neonatal intensive care, state-of-the-art theatres and a dedicated day case Treatment Centre. The Trust has invested significantly in recent years in clinical expansion and hospital mortality is 'as expected' across the range of indicators.
