Job summary

We require an experienced Ophthalmic Photographer to cover a 12 month maternity cover vacancy. This involves:

  • Lead Ophthalmology Imaging Services at Barnet Hospital.
  • Provide a comprehensive ophthalmic photographic service to RFL ophthalmology services.
  • Create and maintain a digital image library with a systematic approach.
  • Identify and implement service improvements for Ophthalmic Imaging services.
  • Co-ordinate incoming work and prioritise accordingly.
  • Ensure procedures with patients are followed.
  • To meet patient waiting times for diagnostics
  • Work with clinicians and nurses to meet the demands of the ophthalmology service.
  • Supervise and manage Ophthalmic technicians working within digital imaging.

Main duties of the job

  • Responsible for performing specialist ophthalmic photography procedures and duties as requested by healthcare professionals to enable diagnosis, clinical assessment, records, teaching, publication, research and medico-legal purposes.
  • Undertake a full range of Ophthalmic photographic and imaging procedures whilst maintaining high quality images:
    • Retinal Fluorescein Angiography
    • External and Fundus Imaging
    • Indocyanine Green Angiography
    • Posterior and anterior OCT - Optical Coherence Tomography
    • Stereo Optic Nerve Head photography
    • Anterior Segment slit lamp Imaging
  • Report general interpretations noting various diseases or conditions observed from the photographs, and consults with clinicians concerning various aspects of interpretation.
  • Grading of retinal screening images, where necessary.
  • To perform high quality standard investigations and diagnostic tests specified by the consultant in diagnostic clinics.

Other tasks include:

  • Measuring spectacle prescriptions using automated focimeters
  • Measuring visual acuity using digital or free-standing LogMar charts
  • Rebound Tonometry
  • Auto-refraction
