Job summary
Calderdale Royal Hospital is keen to recruit a Specialist Biomedical Scientist with expert skills and knowledge in Histological Dissection or to develop the skills required for this role.
The Cellular Pathology laboratory prepares samples for histology, non-gynae cytology, and andrology. We also have a mortuary facility at Calderdale and Huddersfield.
The successful applicant will hold the IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Cellular Pathology or MSc in Cellular Pathology and IBMS Diploma of Expert Practice in Histological Dissection and must be flexible to work early and weekend shifts.
The work involves rotating and maintaining competence in all areas of Cellular Pathology and if required to complete the IBMS Diploma of Expert Practice in Histological Dissection within a 3-year timescale.
There will be a requirement to cross site to Huddersfield.

Main duties of the job
To act in a scientific role and to carry out all routine investigations within the department, following such training as may be necessary, ensuring the quality of the service. To assist in the provision of the cellular pathology and mortuary service for the trusts hospitals and CCGs by providing specialist knowledge and technical skills to process, analyse, understand and interpret results of diagnostic tests.Under supervision, examine, prepare for dissection, and dissect a range of specimens commensurate with the appointees training and experience along guidelines set by the consultant histopathologists. Rotate on a regular basis through the different sections of the department to include histology, andrology, non-gynae cytology and mortuary. To train junior members of staff, be involved with service development through laboratory and clinical audit. Continuous professional development will be essential for this post and further study will be encouraged. To take part in the extended working rota of the department.
