Job summary

Have you considered developing your nursing career in a MacMillan Clinical Nurse Specialist role? We have an exciting opportunity available to support you to join our team of MacMillan Oncology Nurse Specialists in in the Cancer Services Division at MTW.

Macmillan Cancer Care are kindly funding and supporting three Band 6 MacMillan Development posts for a fixed term period of eighteen months. The post holders will rotate between the Lung, Breast and Colorectal Teams for a period of six months each. During this time they will be mentored and supported to develop core competencies with a view to being in a position to apply for a permanent post at the end of the eighteen month period.

We are looking for three positive and enthusiastic nurses with a strong work ethic and an understanding of what it means to care for patients with potentially life-limiting illness. You should possess excellent communication skills and have sufficient nursing experience and professional maturity to enable you to fully commit to the role. All successful candidates will be asked to complete a Quality Improvement project as part of their rotation.

Main duties of the job

The MacMillan CNS Team are an integral part of the Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) and work closely with medical/surgical colleagues, diagnostic services, inpatient and outpatient teams to provide a holistic and patient-centred service. The MacMillan CNS team have strong links with and are managed by Kent Oncology Centre, to ensure that there is a streamlined pathway of care for patients.

This is an exciting time to be joining the Macmillan CNS Teams at Kent Oncology Centre. We are aiming to develop our Band 6 nurses to ensure that succession plans are in place to support the Teams when Band 7 vacancies become available. With mentor support, the trainees will integrate into the existing tumour site specific teams to carry out their extended roles which will include:

  • Support will be provided for the successful candidates in respect of their educational and developmental needs and the successful candidates will be given a comprehensive training programme, overseen by one of the Advanced Clinical Practitioners. On successful completion of the training programme, candidates will be in a position to apply for a permanent role within the Cancer Services Division.
