Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust has an exciting new opportunity for a Consultant Radiographer to join the Breast Unit's Multi-disciplinary team.
The breast imaging team are seeking a highly motivated radiographer who is passionate about breast imaging and has professional ambition and drive, as well as being committed to the development and delivery of a high-quality breast imaging service at MTW.
The Maidstone Peggy Wood Breast Unit provides screening services to women as part of the National Breast Screening Programme, inviting in the region of 26,000 women per year; covering the Maidstone, Tunbridge Wells, Tonbridge, Sevenoaks, Cranbrook and Edenbridge areas. There is also a busy symptomatic service which is based at both the Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells Hospital Sites. We diagnose approximately 650 cancers a year and offer a wide range of diagnostic services. We perform digital mammography, breast tomosynthesis and Contrast Enhanced Spectral Mammography.
You should have HCPC registration as a radiographer, hold the Postgraduate Award in Mammography and in addition will have a post-graduate qualification at Masters level in breast imaging, film reading / reporting, Interventional breast techniques, breast ultrasound and have experience in the Breast Imaging Service.
The position will be based at Maidstone Hospital but there will be an expectation to work cross site if required.
Main duties of the job
- To develop highly specialised knowledge across the specialist area of breast imaging, assessment and diagnosis of breast disease and to promote and incorporate new technologies in clinical practice.
- To provide and facilitate a high level of care to patients attending the breast unit for the assessment and diagnosis of breast disease, and be responsible for the complete episode of care.
- The highest levels of interpersonal skills are required to inform patients of a cancer diagnosis and compliance to proceed with an interventional procedure.
- To exercise expert clinical judgements and represent the patients best interest throughout the care pathway.
- Vet requests for imaging and interventional procedures.
- Make critical, complex and sometimes contentious decisions as an integral part of each episode of care. Decisions will be independently.
- To be highly effective at managing individual patients; being responsible for the emotional and physical wellbeing of patients undergoing breast imaging, to include those with learning disabilities and other vulnerable adults.
