Job summary

The post holder will support the Head of Legal in the delivery of in-house legal services which contribute to the Quality Governance and Assurance Department by proactively managing and supervising the team in the provision of clinical and non-clinical claims and inquests services. In addition, they will implement the Trust's policies and procedures to achieve the early, equitable and cost-effective settlement of claims.

Main duties of the job

  • Implement effective systems to ensure claims are managed efficiently and effectively.
  • Assist the Head of Legal with the development of Claims services in line with national standards, legislation and good practice guidance, identify issues to be addressed, providing systems and solutions that will achieve compliance and monitor progress.
  • Identify and compile documentary evidence to support the achievement of CQC essential standards for quality and safety, NHS Resolution Risk Management Standards and external accreditation visits in relation to Claims.
  • Promote / support development of systems and processes within Health Groups to effectively manage the claims and inquest process.
  • Advise and support Trust staff when required to attend and provide statements and evidence at Coroners Inquests.
  • Identify significant risk issues and raise these with the Head of Legal.
  • Produce reports for consideration by Health Groups, Divisions, Directorates, Patient Safety Committee, and the Trust Board.
  • Implement changes in NHS Resolution procedures and monitor compliance.
  • Monitor achievement of disclosure of records within a given timescale.
  • Develop the policy and procedure for handing of claims ,to meet national and good practice guidance.
  • Identify opportunities for organisational learning opportunities from claims and Coroner's Inquests Service Development
  • Assist the Head of Legal in the development and implementation of an annual plan to achieve service and organisational objectives

HUTH provides specialist and tertiary services to a population of 1.25 million extending from Scarborough in North Yorkshire to Grimsby and Scunthorpe in North East and North Lincolnshire respectively.
