Job summary

We are looking for highly motivated registered nurses to join our Gastroenterology Nursing team on Ward 7 South, St Marks Hospital at Ealing Hospital.

In collaboration with the Team Leader/Named Nurse, to assess, plan, deliver and evaluate nursing care for patients with infectious diseases.

To support the Ward Manager in providing a unified approach to high standards of nursing care.

To contribute to a learning environment that promotes excellent nursing practice.

Work collaboratively and co-operatively with others in the unit in ensuring good inter-disciplinary team work and problem solving to meet the needs of patients with Gastroenterology conditions, and their families.

Main duties of the job

A unique opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and experienced Band 5 Registered General Nurse to join our specialised team on 7 South at LNWH NHS Trust. The role offers the opportunity for staff to work with inpatients on our Hepatology/Gastroenterology ward. You will be supported by an experienced team, Clinical Nurse Manager and Matron. The ward offers different learning opportunities as well as a chance to develop management skills

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Working Relationships and Communication Requirements

Communicates with patients (and their relatives), negotiating daily nursing and rehabilitation plans in potentially sensitive, emotionally charged situations where significant communication and cognitive difficulties are often a feature, with support from more experienced staff as required.

Acts as an advocate for the patient where appropriate.

Ensures good communication verbally, via formal documentation and electronic sources with all members of the nursing and wider multidisciplinary team

Contributes a nursing perspective to relevant patient related meetings e.g. goal setting, family meetings, discharge planning, with support from more experienced staff.

Supports the Ward Manager in ensuring all staff and carers/family/visitors are aware of and comply with policies, standards/guidelines relevant to the patients care or clinical area.

Recognize the legal implications of nursing documentation, maintains accurate clinical records and ensures confidentiality of patient information in accordance with London North West Hospitals Policies and Procedures, the Data Protection Act and Caldicott Recommendations.

Level of Clinical responsibility

  1. Under the direction of the Named Nurse, assesses, plans, delivers and evaluates nursing care for patients with gastroenterology conditions
  2. Day to day involvement with patients and clinical teams in delivering and evaluating effective, highly specialised rehabilitation programmes for patients, with support from more experienced staff as required.
  3. Recognises and responds appropriately to urgent clinical situations, being aware of own competence and asking for assistance as required.
  4. Acts as a clinical resource to health care assistants and learners within their team.
