Job summary
The award-winning Head, Neck and Thyroid Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) team are looking for a motivated, flexible and resilient band 6 Associate CNS to join our team.
Working with the guidance and support of the band 7 CNS the Associate CNS will provide individualised patient-centred care for those who have been diagnosed with head, neck and thyroid cancers. The post holder will also be involved in service development and improvement.
We are a dynamic, motivated and supportive team, who work flexibly to meet the needs of the service and improve it while supporting each other. This post would be ideal for a nurse with surgical/ acute care experience, in particular, airway management- but this is not essential.
Primarily based at the Sussex Cancer Centre, but travel across University Hospitals Sussex sites is expected to support the needs of the service.
The cancer division is currently developing consistent standards of care and collaborative working across the Trust.
Main duties of the job
Support patients and colleagues at breaking bad news and through the investigation/staging pathway Contribute to the personalised care of the patient group Provide appropriate information and advice to patients and others affected by head, neck and thyroid cancer Provide a responsive service to queries and concerns - being able to triage and make appropriate clinical decisions, working within your limitations referring to senior colleagues as necessary Understanding altered airways and supporting patients to self-care Inserting nasogastric tubes Support self-care for patients with artificial feeding tubes, including planning and supporting discharge Wound assessment and management Signpost and refer to services appropriately, such as physiotherapy, counselling and palliative care Provide support to junior members of the team Liaise effectively with members of the multi-disciplinary teams Provide cross-cover across disease site teams as required
