Band 7 Advanced Dietitian, Oncology
3 days per week (22.5 hours). Monday, Tuesday & Thursday
This post sits within the Acute Team and works with the Macmillan Dietitian to provide a dietetic service to Oncology & Haematology outpatients at St Richard's Hospital.
We provide dietetic assessment and advice to Haematology and Oncology patients on a palliative or curative pathway. We see patients face to face and hold remote consultations, supporting patients attending our onsite chemotherapy day unit. We work closely with Queen Alexandra Hospital, Cosham as our regional cancer centre and have strong in house MDT links.
If you have at least 3 years post graduate NHS experience and experience of working in cancer services; a desire to demonstrate high standards of care with excellent communication skills, this post offers the support of a friendly department and experienced multidisciplinary team.
Main duties of the job
Work as part of the dietetic and multidisciplinary teams to provide highly specialist advice, education and support to patients, carers and other health professionals in oncology and haematology.
Provide training to undergraduate Dietitians, supervising their clinical placements.
Participate in continuing professional development, audit and research within this specialist area to further best practice.

Dietetic specialities include acute, diabetes, gastroenterology, paediatrics, bariatrics, nutrition support, eating disorders and community Dietetics.
We train student dietitians for A, B and C placements.
We are committed to training and professional development.
There are excellent IT facilities in all offices and laptops for each dietitian.
Main Responsibilities
- Undertake dietetic assessments of referred patients taking into account medical, social, cultural and psychological factors. Calculate nutritional requirements based on the interpretation of anthropometry, biochemistry, clinical condition and other physical parameters.
- Determine and prescribe the appropriate dietetic treatment and develop treatment plans.
- Advise on the prescription of borderline substances such as nutritional supplements, tube feeds and vitamin and mineral supplements and liaise with appropriate agencies about monitoring.
- Provide nutrition and dietary advice which is based on current evidence and is appropriate to the patients medical, social, cultural and psychological factors.
- Provide training to patients, carers and staff on enteral feeding (EF) equipment, register patients on Nutricia Homeward system prior to discharge and order equipment/appropriate ancillaries for EF patients.
- Negotiate change with patients to enable them to achieve targets, overcoming barriers to change including dietary, environmental, social and psychological factors.
