To work with colleagues to maintain and develop a quality service within the Chest Pain Clinic, Nuclear Cardiology, Nurse Led Cardiology Clinics and related services.
To take overall responsibility for the care of a caseload of patients requiring specialist nursing care within the Chest Pain Clinic, Nurse Led Cardiology Clinic and within the Nuclear Cardiology department
To provide specialist training to members of the multi-disciplinary team throughout the Trust as required.
Ensure the delivery of agreed professional standards of care within the Chest Pain Clinic, the Nurse Led Cardiology Clinic and Nuclear Cardiology, working within local and national guidelines.
To work collaboratively with the Cardiologists to ensure high quality nurse led cardiology clinics continue to develop in response to local need and national directives.
To decide when to perform an exercise stress test on a patient, in line with local and national guidelines. To perform exercise tests, interpret the results, and use the data collected to assist clinical decision making.
To participate in research and audit within Cardiology.
Main duties of the job
Work autonomously to deliver specialist clinical care appropriate to the needs of the patient group and based on principles that are research based and which enhance the quality of patient care.
Take direct referrals within scope of practice. Assess, diagnose and autonomously manage own patient workload with undifferentiated or unstable problems using a range of assessment tools, clinical guidelines and approaches. Discharge and refer patients to other clinical teams as appropriate
Work as lead stressor with patients attending Nuclear Cardiology for Myocardial Perfusion scans, working within the Patient Group Directive to decide stress modality. The Cardiology Nurse Specialist then assesses all stress scans to determine the need for GTN administration prior to the rest scan and patients with normal scans are advised not to return for their rest scan.

Discuss all alternative treatment options and facilitate clinical management decisions.
Obtain informed consent for procedures as required, in accordance with the Trust consent policy.
Clinically assess and diagnose patients presenting with chest pain.
Autonomously prescribe the relevant medication. Review medication for therapeutic effectiveness, appropriate to patient needs and make changes to their medication in accordance with evidence-based practice, national and practice protocols.
Works with patients in order to support adherence to prescribed treatments.
Lead in the development of evidence based patient care policies and procedures.
Develop and contribute to clinical guidelines and protocols and lead theimplementation process as required.
Provide specialist support to clinical teams in dealing with the complex needs of different client groups and when imparting or receiving sensitive, complex or contentious information. Liaise closely with other health and social care professionals to ensure a co-ordinated approach to patient care.
