Job summary

A major development in ophthalmology has been the introduction of intra-vitreal injectionsfor the treatment of macular disorders such as wet age-related macular degeneration(AMD). As a consequence outpatient attendances have increased significantly due to theregular follow-up care required by patients. The effect of this is a significant increase onthe intra-vitreal injection service. The Royal College of Ophthalmologists recommendstraining non-medical HCPs to perform prescribed intra-vitreal injections to improve servicecapacity.This is an opportunity to develop your career and train to administer intravitreal injectionfor the treatment of macular conditions. You will be expected to know the treatmentregimens and background of the conditions that you are treating.Training will be given by a retinal consultant in-house. It is the responsibility of theindividual practitioner once competent to maintain a record of their proof of continuedlearning and peer assessed on a 6 month basis.The post holder will be a registered nurse/AHP with experience and skills inophthalmology. An excellent knowledge of aseptic and surgical technique would be of anadvantage.
