Job summary

Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust has 3 workplace nurseries thatprovided full and part time day care for pre-school children.

We deliver high quality compassionate care, within the nursery setting for the pre-school children of NHS parents, and some pre-school children from the local community.

We are looking for a qualified Nursery Nurse, Level 3 or above, to work within our team at Hilltop Nursery, Brighton General Hospital.

We are looking for someone to work alongside the Nursery Manager and the teams in the day to day running of the nursery and the compliance with the children's act 1989 and 2006, Welfare requirements outlined in the Early years foundation stage 2008,

Main duties of the job

To support and deputise the Nursery Managers covering the full range of service in their absence as required.

To assist with the responsibility for the day-to-day operational provision and management of the Trust Nurseries.

To support Nursery Group Leaders in the daily running of the playrooms, and the Nursery nurses in their daily duties. To work in partnership with parents and outside organisations.

To be the trained SENCO (Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator)

Ensure a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care is provided for all children at the nursery(s) and to contribute to the development of the services.

Liaise and communicate with outside organisations, agencies, childcare professionals, OFSTED and parents and carers. To do this by using various modes of communication, (verbal and electronic) and to report back to Nursery Management Team.

Communicate effectively with all staff members on various subjects.

To attend meetings when applicable with various different people or agencies.

To be able to interact with all children at their level.

Job responsibilities

To be a representative of the nursery, and SCFT always.

To work as part of a team, while directing the team, helping, and covering when necessary.

To maintain the standards of the nursery in conjunction with SCFT and Nursery policies and procedures.

To maintain the standards of the nursery with full regard to the Welfare Requirements as stated in the Early years foundation stage.

To ensure that Health and Safety is always observed on the nursery premises, hospital site.

To ensure, in conjunction with the Nursery Management team, and the Estates Department, the building requirements, and any maintenance works, are dealt with promptly to maintain safety.

General

To work with Quality Assurance Programmes, and to help the nursery gain accreditations, certificates.

To undertake certain domestic jobs within the Nursery.

Childcare

To work with all age groups in the nursery as required.

To oversee a curriculum of interesting and stimulating activities suitable to the age range of children attending the Nursery, in conjunction with Ofsted requirements in conjunction with the nursery staff in each childs individual Learning needs.

To ensure the inclusion of all children.

To have a good knowledge of child development, child legislation, Early Years Foundation stage, and to keep abreast of current trends in early years care.

Parents

To support and attend parents evenings and Parent Nursery Group meetings, when required

To liase with and support parent/carers and other family members, whilst their child attends nursery, to aid the childs learning and development.

Administrative duties

To record any accidents and incidents of the children, or staff, at any time (even outside Nursery hours) and report this information to the Nursery Management Team.

To ensure a risk assessment form is completed for activities undertaken by staff, children, visitors, volunteers etc within the nursery and a risk assessment form made available.

In the absence of the Nursery Manager, report to the Management team of any staff absences.

In the absence of the Nursery Manager report to the Management team and SCFT infection and Prevention team of any staff or child reportable sickness.

To support the Nursery Manager in maintaining, and overseeing, the Nursery Planning and keeping up to date in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum.

Education and training

To undertake training as required and to become involved in special projects as appropriate.

To support the development of the nursery teams

Finance

The post holder will be required to handle cash and cheques in respect of payments for fees and fundraising. This is in co-ordinated in line with the trusts statuary financial instruction procedures.

Staff management

To ensure, by example and supervision that a high standard of childcare is maintained.

In Nursery Managers absence ensure staffing cover nursery ratios are safe, and in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage always.

To promote good staff relations, support, maintain an efficient working team and effective communication.

To support Nursery Manager to provide regular supervisions and appraisals for staff.

In the Nursery Managers absence, organise and supervise nursery staff, to think creatively and flexibly in the deployment of staff and resources.

To attend staff meetings inside and outside working hours and help write the agenda.

To support Trainee Nursery Nurses during training.

To liaise with colleges and schools regarding Students and other unqualified workers. Assist helping them to achieve the learning intentions of their courses and liaise with college tutors where necessary.

Identify and meet own and others training needs.

To support the Management Team in completing nursery inductions with all new staff, visitors and students. Including policies and procedures, health and safety, routines etc.

To work in the absence of the nursery Managers in each nursery and manage the nursery.
