Job summary

Freedom from Torture is a powerful and passionate human rights organisation which is dedicated to healing and protecting people who have survived torture.

We have an exciting opportunity for an HCPC registered Physiotherapist to work within our Pain Management service in our London centre on a zero hours basis. The role will be working as part of our multi-disciplinary team, providing specialist physiotherapy for our clients with complex and persistent pain.

Main duties of the job

The main purpose of this role is to provide specialist physiotherapy assessment and management of a group of clients who are survivors of torture with chronic pain. The clients referred into the service will be therapy clients receiving treatment for mental health problems associated with their torture. They will have persistent pain which is limiting daily functioning, limiting quality of life, or limiting ability to engage in therapies

You will be part of our multi-disciplinary team situated at our London centre which is a purpose-built centre specifically designed for the treatment of torture survivors, with extensive indoor space and gardens.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Undertaking comprehensive assessments of clients referred into the service.

Formulating and delivering a specialist, individual, goal orientated treatment programme based on sound knowledge of evidence-based practice and treatment options using assessment, clinical reasoning skills and knowledge of treatment e.g. treatment techniques and principles, equipment provision and other alternative options.

Ensuring a holistic approach to overall care and rehabilitation of pain management clients including effective working relationships with clients therapist, MDT and relevant others.

Addressing relevant functional physical disability and skills deficits enabling the client in areas of self-care, personal health management, activity, education and leisure.

Delivering treatment either individually or in a group.

Maintaining accurate and comprehensive client treatment records in line with CSP, HCPC and FfT standards of practice and to contribute to multidisciplinary reports.

Providing clinical supervision and support to movement therapists as appropriate

Experience

Essential

  • Experience in the management of a range of conditions including chronic pain clients.
  • Experience in delivering clinical treatment with chronic pain clients
  • Evidence of ability to manage complex clinical presentations

Desirable

  • Experience in assessment of clients with mental health problems
  • Awareness of trauma-informed care

Qualifications
