Job summary

TAUNTON VALE HEALTHCARE

We are seeking a full time or part time Patient Services Administrator to work across our two sites in Taunton. Flexibility is essential to cover shift patterns. Both full time and part time hours are available. Experience is preferred, although not essential, as full training will be provided.

For this role you will be expected to provide courteous, efficient and confidential handling of patients requests. You will receive and direct patients, take patient requests for appointments, visits, repeat prescriptions and test results.

Main duties of the job

Along with 3 GCSEs Grade A-C (or equivalent) including English and Maths, ideally, you will have experience of working in a public reception area, using Microsoft Office software, working in a medical/clinical environment and working with a clinical computer system.

You will have the ability to communicate diplomatically with all types of people and professionals, both face to face and on the telephone along with good organisational skills. Alongside this, you will also have an understanding, acceptance and adherence to the need for strict confidentiality

You should be pleasant & articulate, have the ability to work under pressure; to work alone as required; to work as part of an integrated team and to use own judgment, resourcefulness & common sense, be reliable and show attention to detail.

You should be able to work the desired hours and be able to work additional hours to cover holiday/sickness absence as required. Good sense of humor with a friendly/positive can do approach to work is welcome.

About us

Taunton Vale Healthcare comprises of a GP practice based in two locations, both in the east of Taunton. We are a busy practice with a list size of 13,600 patients and we operate from two purpose built premises.

  • To ensure courteous, efficient and confidential handling of patients enquiries and requests both on the telephone and face to face;
  • Efficient and prompt filing, record keeping, message taking and distribution of documents;
  • Be flexible in working hours to allow smooth functioning of surgery at times of illness/holidays etc.
  • Opening/closing of premises where appropriate, including setting the alarm;
  • Processing mail (both electronic and paper);
  • Input of accurate data onto clinical computer system and coding of patient correspondence where necessary, including scanning, appointments, registrations;
  • Receiving and directing patients;

  • Dealing with payments from patients for private services;
  • Welcoming new patients, explaining practice procedures, completing necessary paperwork and associated data input on the computer;

  • Be prepared to attend and participate in regular team meetings (to include Full Team Meetings and Administration meetings);
  • Ensure smooth handover of staff and any relevant messages;
