NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) is a world leader in delivering a safe and sufficient supply of blood, as well as tissues and solid organs. Each year our donors give around two million donations of blood and 3,500 organs – saving and transforming countless lives.

Our IT helps us manage donations safely through the entire supply chain, from donation through to manufacturing, processing and transfusion/transplantation. We’re constantly seeking new ways to increase productivity and efficiency, and that means rethinking the way we use IT to deliver a better experience for donors, hospital customers, partners and staff.

Over the next four years, we’ll be working towards a simplified set of IT services, hosted in the cloud and developed iteratively to ensure they meet our changing needs – now and in the future. Your IT Services expertise will be critical to making this happen. Focusing primarily in the area of specialist infrastructure you’ll oversee both technical and service issues, ensuring we perform in line with business needs.

In this role you will provide team leadership and accountability for Server Infrastructure, Virtualisation & Wintel Platforms, Data Storage Management, Hosting Facilities & Cloud including the following technologies: -

  • Unix / Linux / Solaris / Itanium / OpenVMS
  • VMWare / Wintel
  • Storage / SAN / NetApp / StorSimple
  • Data centre services
  • Cloud hosting including IaaS and PaaS

 

To succeed, you’ll need knowledge of IT best practice as defined by ITIL, as well as expertise in all aspects of the full IT service management lifecycle. This should include familiarity with service design and transition, and recognised project management approaches such as PRINCE2 and Agile.

Experience of working in medicine or another regulated environment would be useful. The ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical audiences on a wide variety of complex issues is essential.

This role will be based in Liverpool, Manchester or Bristol, location to be agreed with the recruiting manager.
