A great opportunity has arisen to join one of the largest community and mental health providers in the NHS with annual revenue of around £181 million and with over 3800 staff. The Adult Mental Health service provides a range of specialist mental health services to Portsmouth City only with a total resident population of 215,000 and a more fluid student population

This Consultant post has arisen due to retirement with the current incumbent having held the post for twenty-one years. The Acute and Community Services are aligned in geographical areas, historically divided into North and South but with increasing cross-team working. Community referrals are managed by the Consultant led ‘Access to Intervention’ (a2i) team, the vast majority treated within a six-month timescale and discharged back to primary care. Patients with severe and enduring mental illness needing longer term intervention are referred by a2i and Acute Care Pathway to the South (this post) and North Recovery Teams.

The Acute Care Pathway has recently been reconfigured to include three dedicated Consultant Psychiatrist post to the Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit, Acute adult ward and CRHT caseloads all based at St. James Hospital, Portsmouth.

Our trust shared values (HEART – honesty, everyone counts, accountable, respectable and team work) support the development of a strong working culture and guides and inspires all of our actions and decisions. They enable us to be better at what we do and create a great place for our staff to work, whilst ensuring we provide the highest quality of care to our patients. Our last CQC rating of ‘outstanding’ for care and ‘good’ for the other domains depict these.

The trust is situated in the vibrant maritime city of Portsmouth with a long naval history and excellent shopping facilities. With the New Forest and South Downs nearby, the area provides the opportunity for a wide range of outdoor leisure activities for all the family. We are a short time away from London by road and rail, with easy access to the continent by air and ferry.

We welcome informal visits or telephone contact about this role, please contact kayode.osanaiye@solent.nhs.uk directly.

Applications are invited from registered medical practitioners, who have or are eligible for a CCT or an equivalent approved indicator of training and eligible for entry onto the Specialist Register within six months of the interview date.

A full UK driving licence and vehicle for business use is required for this post; however reasonable adjustments will be made for disabled individuals in line with the Equality Act 2010.

Please note: the job description for this post is with the Royal College for the standard review, therefore may be subject to minor changes.
