A unique opportunity has arisen to join our established and dynamic Ward 39/Assessment Unit team. We are looking for an experienced Registered Nurse that has a genuine interest to develop their career within this specialty an individual who is passionate about providing a high standard of care to their patients. You should be highly patient focused, motivated, flexible and enthusiastic, keen to learn new skills and have a passion to work within the cancer care setting.

University Hospitals of Leicester now hosts the Radiotherapy Delivery Network for the East Midlands.

It is one of the busiest Cancer centres in the UK caring for approximately 1.5 million population

We have launched assessment and accreditation for all in patient wards at UHL in addition to that we are working with the cancer collaborative to run a national programme linked to the national cancer patient survey in regards to patient experience. We are at the early stages of that project and the pilot is being run on Ward 39.

We are very fortunate that all of our cancer wards have a high Friends and Family Test score and patient experience feedback is consistently at recommend or highly recommend

Ward 39 is an 18 bedded mixed sex ward dealing with a variety of acute oncology/haematology patients. The ward also treats Brachytherapy patients and is the only ward in cancer services with a lead lined room for iodine treatments. The oncology assessment unit is a 7 bedded area with a triage chaired area for admissions into the cancer centre. These admissions are either through telephone triage, outpatient areas, GP referrals or via accident and emergency.

You will regularly take charge of the ward. As an effective leader and role model you will work flexibly as a member of the ward team, and in support of the Ward Sister to ensure standards are maintained, evaluated, and where necessary improved. In return you will have opportunities to join the band 6 development programme in CHUGGS and work closely with your ward sister to put this learning into practice.

In addition, you will play a key role in ensuring patients, carers, clinical staff and the wider community have the necessary education and training in order to care for and manage the oncology and haematology patient’s effectively.

You will be an effective role model and be involved in helping to develop all aspects of the ward including provision of policies and procedures. Improvements to the patients’ environment, delivering high quality clinical care and staff development.
