Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust (LPT) provides a range of community health, mental health and learning disability services for people of all ages. Delivered through over 100 settings from inpatient wards to out in the community, our 6,500 staff serves over 1m people living in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.


Band 6 Speech & Language Therapist - Adult Community Team (including stroke rehabilitation)

Full time (37.5 hours)

We have Band 6 sessions in our community team working with a mixed caseload of adults with acquired communication and / or swallowing difficulties.

Our Speech and Language Therapy Service is county-wide, and led by a supportive SLT management team and supported by a dedicated administration team to provide a high quality service to the people of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. Leicester is a vibrant and culturally diverse city. We provide care in community clinics and hospitals, acute hospitals and older person’s mental health units. We have around 50 clinical staff including specialists in voice and dysfluency, neurology, brain injury, stroke, head and neck cancer, dementia and critical care. We offer an excellent support network and are committed to clinical supervision and continued professional development. We have regular whole team and specific team meetings and provide in-service training.

This post is made up of:

Community Stroke Unit – 3 days a week working as part of the SLT team (including another band 6 therapist), alongside the MDT, in the 15 bedded community stroke rehabilitation unit in Coalville.

City Community Caseload – 2 days a week based at Prince Philip House in the city of Leicester. You will be working with people with a range of acquired communication and swallowing difficulties (e.g. stroke, progressive neurological disorders and dementia) alongside other SLT’s in our community team. You will have the opportunity to see patients in an out patient clinic, care homes and people’s own homes. You will have the opportunity to take part in treatment groups and training to care homes.

We are looking for an enthusiastic team player who enjoys the demands of community work, with proven time management and organisational skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. You must be competent in dysphagia management, and have evidence of completion of dysphagia competencies. You would be joining a team that is flexible and adaptable. Our team is open to new ideas and to trialing new ways of working.
