We provide a series of highly specialist cardiac, liver and neurosurgery services to patients from across the UK.

We are world-renowned for our trauma care and have developed pioneering surgical techniques in the management of ballistic and blast injuries, including bespoke surgical solutions for previously unseen injuries. We are a designated a Level 1 Trauma Centre and host of the UK’s only £20m National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Surgical Reconstruction and Microbiology Research Centre (SRMRC).

This role is based with the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

The purpose of the WMAHSN is to improve health and promote economic growth through the adoption of innovation that meets defined needs of the West Midlands health economy. The objectives of the WMAHSN supported by this role include:

  • To increase capacity and capability in the region to adopt innovation
  • To provide an innovation and adoption process that matches viable solutions to defined challenges
  • To establish focused collaborative partnerships that implement identified solutions to achieve measurable impact
  • To drive adoption through improved understanding between industry, academia, health and the patient and citizens
  • To create the necessary environment and conditions for sustainable economic growth for the health economy.

The WMAHSN Chief Operating Officer will take the lead in developing and maintaining high standards of corporate governance and will ensure there is a robust corporate infrastructure in place to support the WMAHSN in meeting its business needs and strategic objectives. The Chief Operating Officer contributes to the leadership, strategic direction, performance management and governance of the WMAHSN and shares with the WMAHSN director’s corporate responsibility with the Board and Executive Team in ensuring the WMAHSN achieves its strategic objectives.

The successful applicant will lead on all aspects of corporate governance, business and executive support, human resources, organisational development, finance and commercial support, business development, facilities management, IT support, procurement, communications and marketing, ensuring that the WMAHSN is a sustainable organisation. Key elements of the AHSN portfolio are delivered by contract with external partner organisations and so the successful applicant will have significant responsibility for overseeing procurement, contracting and account management in these areas.

Due to funding, this post is fxed term for 12 months.
