The pre-operative assessment service at The Great Western Hospital is a nurse led service that sees in excess of 1000 patients per month.

We are looking to recruit a dynamic nurse with excellent clinical nursing skills, to deliver a high quality service to patients attending the pre-operative assessment unit.

We are looking for a nurse who has vision and passion to work within our nursing team to provide the best possible care for our patients.

The successful applicant will be a motivated and enthusiastic individual with significant post-registration clinical experience within the area of pre-operative assessment or equivalent general adult surgical experience. Applicants will need to have a clear understanding of nursing quality and be able to assure excellence in clinical care.

Applicants must have the relevant experience and knowledge of care delivery appropriate to this patient group, be creative, enthusiastic, motivated and have excellent communication skills.

The post holder will be expected to act as a role model for junior staff and contribute to the development and training needs of staff within the unit.

The ability to work collaboratively with all members of the multi-disciplinary team is essential, together with excellent communication skills.

The Pre-operative Assessment Unit assesses both In-Patients and Day Surgery Patients. You will use your assessment skills and clinical competencies daily and develop many new ones too!

We are are motivated, friendly, dynamic team who enjoy making a difference to our patients pathway, this is regularly reflected in our friends and family feedback and feedback from other teams/specialities within the hospital.

We are looking to cover 5 days per week. Shift hours vary daily and the Unit is operational between 08.00 and 19:30 Monday – Friday.

All new starters with the Trust will be subject to a six month probationary period, with the exception of medical and dental candidates.

Current employees should be aware that this position is advertised as a GWH position and appointment ends any TUPE protection.

All candidates are required to pay for their own DBS check where applicable. Standard DBS check costs £26 and will be recovered from your first pay; Enhanced DBS check costs £44 and will be split and recovered over the first 2 pay.

Bank posts requiring a DBS check; payment must be made prior to commencing.

Apprentices are exempt from payment.
