We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for 1 highly motivated, ambitious individual to join our team for the following new post at the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust:

1 x Consultant Cardiologist with a special interest in Heart Failure

The Heart Failure Department has a strong reputation for clinical and research excellence and has grown quickly and effectively to address the needs of this complex patient group. Our broader network of services aims to provide joined up management across community, primary care, and hospital settings using community heart failure nurses, GPs, MDTs, rapid access heart failure clinics, and direct admissions to the Heart Failure ward.

The service is supported by an excellent pacing and complex devices service along with comprehensive electro-physiology facilities including expertise in VT ablation. We provide state of the art multi-modality cardiac imaging including cardiac CT, TTE and TOE, stress echocardiography, cardiac MRI, and nuclear perfusion imaging, Significant research programmes are interwoven with these services.

UHL’s Cardiac Unit is a major UK provider at secondary, tertiary, and quaternary level and benefits from on-site cardiac surgery, ECMO, structural intervention, and Leicester’s National Institute for Health Research Biomedical Research Centre.

Cardiology provides specialised services for investigation and treatment of patients with cardiac conditions patients from Leicestershire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Mansfield, Northamptonshire and the Southern half of Lincolnshire. The service also undertakes a mixture of locally and nationally commissioned specialist work and has an expanded referral base of up to 3 million for some services. There is an emphasis on acute secondary level provision for a catchment population of approximately 1 million, some referrals being direct and some from the Accident and Emergency Department.

Facilities include a dedicated angio-catheter suite (with 5 catheter labs), CCU, hybrid lab / theatre, cardiac admissions unit (part of cardiorespiratory clinical decisions unit (CDU), day care and outpatients, pacemaker clinic, and a non-invasive unit where a full range of investigations are performed. This includes trans-oesophageal echocardiography, stress echo, CRT optimisation echo, exercise testing, ambulatory ECG, tilt testing, autonomic function testing, stress MRI and radio nuclear studies. Recent capital expansion has increased our facilities, particularly a dedicated MRI/CT facility with up to date scanners, including FFR CT.

Cardiac care at UHL is currently based on the Glenfield site. The Accident and Emergency Department is based at the Leicester Royal Infirmary. We will reconfigure these services to optimise cardiac provision at both acute hospitals.

The successful applicants will join us in our bid to provide very high quality cardiology services and will be expected to offer specialist skills in the specific areas outlined above.
