Our Trust

Cambridge University Hospitals (CUH) NHS Foundation Trust comprises Addenbrooke’s Hospital and the Rosie Hospital in Cambridge. With over 10000 staff and over 1100 beds the priorities of the Trust focus on a quality service which is all about people – patients, staff and partners. Recognised as providing ‘outstanding’ care to our patients and rated ‘Good’ overall by the Care Quality Commissioner, is testament to the skill and dedication of the people who work here. CUH’s values – Together- safe, kind, excellent – are at the heart of patient care, defining the way all staff work and behave. The Trust provides accessible high-quality healthcare for the local people of Cambridge, together with specialist services, dealing with rare or complex conditions for a regional, national and international population.

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the clinical genomics diagnostic laboratory for a Technical Lead to lead on the delivery of technical services including the development, testing, validation and implementation of automation solutions and high throughput next generation sequencing for a broad range of clinical diagnostic and research applications to deliver a streamlined, efficient genomics service for patient care.

You will be responsible for leading the technical team in processing genomic workflows (including next generation sequencing, microarray, and other emerging technologies), working with Technical and Scientific staff to ensure service delivery and compliance with good laboratory practices and BSI Standard ISO15189:2012 in order to deliver a high quality service for our patients and to maintain accreditation.

You will work closely with a multi professional team within the department to implement cutting edge approaches to routine diagnostic processes.

The East Midlands and East of England NHS Genomic Laboratory Hub (EMEE GLH) is one of seven Genomic Hubs recently established to provide the new National Genomic Medicine Service for NHS England. Led by Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and working with Nottingham University Hospital and University Hospital Leicester, the EMEE GLH will offer a high quality service to deliver the tests listed in the National Genomic Test Directory, for a population of 10million. This includes diagnostic tests for inherited disorders and for cancer, disease monitoring and predictive tests. The EMEE GLH is currently in a mobilisation phase, undergoing large scale change to consolidate several services onto a single site.

As part of this transformation we require experienced Technical staff to facilitate large scale, high throughput, high quality and efficient genomic analyses, interpretation and reporting. Additionally the role includes training and supervision of trainees, and providing routine technical support and advice for the clinical genomics diagnostic service. You will work with a wide range of personnel within the department, across the region covered by the GLH, and with national bodies, including Scientists, Technicians, Clinicians and Academics.

You will be qualified to degree level, have experience of managing teams, an understanding of quality systems in laboratories and a good understanding of the science of genomic medicine.
