Explore what you are capable of in a career-defining opportunity

Committed to ensuring every unit of blood, and every tissue and organ donation is put to best use, NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) is a medical leader in the transplant and transfusion field. Our world-leading research and methods are emulated worldwide, with healthcare organisations across the globe modelling themselves on our innovative approach to saving and enhancing lives. And while our medical knowledge underpins everything that we do, our work wouldn’t be possible without the team effort that brings support and medical staff together, delivering excellence to the British public. Now you could be part of this exceptional dynamic.

While NHSBT is a progressive organisation, we are also ambitious – so we have large-scale plans to deliver massive change over the next five years. Central to this transformation programme is the government’s support for a potential opt-out law relating to organ donation which will hopefully come into effect in April 2020 – and which has the scope to massively increase the volume of organs available to those in need of a transplant. Working with the Head of Portfolio, you will see to it that we are making the most of this important moment in time. Embarking on a great learning curve, you will experience how our associated change programme is taking effect, and how its success is being monitored. Working with stakeholders to ensure they remain engaged, you will undertake a wide variety of duties to enable the success of the programme. From preparing slide decks and developing reporting tools, to inducting new team members and gathering information from Project Managers, this a multi-layered role that will continue to evolve.

This is a unique opportunity to expand your understanding of project/programme methodology and delivery. You will therefore have a good grasp of project management through the complete lifecycle, supported by an excellent grasp of IT packages (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and the ability to use these to produce professional reports. It would also be useful if you have experience of using Microsoft Project and Visio, though good verbal and written communication skills are more important. Calm when under pressure, you will be a team-player with knockout organisational and prioritising capabilities. You will also be educated to HNC/HND level or equivalent, and you will be keen to learn.

When you join NHSBT, you can be sure of career-defining challenges and a huge amount of variety in every working day. We want you to thrive in the team, so behind each of these fascinating projects will lie a great deal of support from senior colleagues – plus access to our progressive learning and development opportunities. With scope for networking within NHSBT you will be at the forefront of future career openings, and with 27 days of holiday (plus 8 bank holidays), a great work/life balance and a truly friendly working environment, we’ll take of your emotional wellbeing too. Join us, and catapult your career to new heights.
