Paediatric Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist Responsible for Long Term Ventilation

A unique and exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist to join the Therapy team at Leicester Children’s Hospital. As the Clinical Specialist responsible for Long Term Ventilation Occupational Therapy, you will provide the clinical expertise, leadership and direction to the Service as well as working with patients and teams from across the Children’s Hospital.

 

We are seeking an enthusiastic, experienced Occupational Therapist who is passionate about working with children in an acute hospital environment and who also has a special interest in children with long term ventilation requirements. We are looking for someone with current, advanced clinical knowledge and skills within Long Term Ventilation as well as general acute paediatric skills; someone who is able to motivate themselves and others to provide the very best quality of care for our patients.

 

For the bulk of this unique post, you will be leading Occupational Therapist for the Long Term Ventilation service, ensuring the children, their family and carers are supported and their specific needs/equipment required to expedite discharge home are identified. You will work closely with the Multi Disciplinary Team for Long Term Ventilation to ensure a high quality, innovative service is provided. Alongside the rest of the inpatient paediatric therapy team, you will provide developmental treatment for these patients on the wards and support the transition from hospital to community services through the use of home visits, clinics and liaising with other community teams. The Long Term Ventilation team will receive1.00 WTE of Occupational Therapy activity and you will lead on who and how this is provided.

 

The other part of this role will be spent with Paediatric Therapy team, working alongside the existing Clinical Specialist to provide inpatient care to the Children, families and carers of Leicester Children’s Hospital. The Paediatric therapy team provides a fully integrated, high quality service, where our patients are at the heart of everything we do and your work in the acute inpatient team will reflect this.

 

You will work as part of an established multidisciplinary team with colleagues from both acute and community services, locally and across the region. As a specialist Children’s Hospital we cover a large area from Northampton to Derby and Coventry to Lincolnshire and you will help support and develop the local Occupational Therapy service within this area.

 

The Therapy Department provides a seven day rostered service and the successful candidate will be required to work on the weekend and bank holiday rosters.

 

Car driver/owner or suitable alternative as it is anticipated that the use of public transport would not be acceptable for this post.

 

As a large, acute NHS Trust with strong links to the University of Leicester and De Montfort University there is a strong focus on teaching and development of staff.
