Amazing People

The National Health Service Blood and Transplant Tissue Services are an integral part of the NHS. Our Tissue Donation Programme saves and radically improves hundreds of lives every year.

You will have NVQ level 3 in Care or Science or 4 GCSE’s at Grade C or above including English and Maths (or equivalent).

Initially starting as a Retrieval Assistant, you will be trained to retrieve a range of tissues from recently deceased donors, including eyes. The retrievals are carried out over a wide geographical area, therefore a valid driving licence is essential.

You will possess good IT and organisational skills, as there are a variety of administrative duties and excellent attention to detail is key.

You will be part of a small, dynamic team, covering a 7 day scheduled rota, working between 08:00 and 20:00, sometimes working alone.

In order to obtain a fascinating insight into the role, applicants are advised to watch “The Human Tissue Squad” – this can be found on the internet.
