It is an exciting time to join our Trust as work is underway to reconfigure our services to optimise patient care. Womens and Childrens facilities will be undergoing complete refurbishment in the next few years, starting with the move of nationally recognised East Midlands Congenital Heart Centre to the Leicester Royal Infirmary, mid 2020, bringing all Childrens care in the Southern East Midlands to a single site.

The advent of the South East Midlands Oncology Centre is expanding our Oncology and Haematology service and we are exploring options to offer treatment on other hospital sites and through outreach.

Working with UGGs will give exposure to a variety of clinical areas to optimise patient care. As part of this, our Band 7 Specialist Pharmacists are part of the Nutrition Ward Round, which contributes to the MDT process for patients with clinical nutrition needs. Additionally, UGGs & MSS are currently part of a large transformation project which will further help us in becoming the best.

Within Emergency and Specialist Medicine we provide services to a range of clinical areas including Emergency Medicine, Neurology, Stroke, Geriatrics, Diabetes, Endocrinology, Infectious Diseases, Rheumatology and Dermatology.

University Hospitals of Leicester has one of the busiest Emergency Departments in the country with one ED serving a population of over 1 million people. Our acute medicine department also has a large Acute Medical Unit, an Acute Ambulatory Care service, a Short Stay Unit, an Acute Care Medical HDU and 2 Acute Frailty Units; which includes the newly formed Frailty Emergency Squad (FES).

Our service is provided by a team of Assistants, Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacists and supported by satellite pharmacies. Our extended hours service is supported by a dedicated team of Foundation Pharmacists to provide 7 day ward based services and out of hours support.
