PHE is bringing together its national scientific laboratories and headquarters to create one of the world’s leading centres for public health science in Harlow, Essex, in the heart of the London and Cambridge life sciences corridor. Between 2021 and 2024 all posts based at the Porton, Colindale, Skipton and Wellington House sites (except positions in Centres & Regions) will move to PHE Harlow as part of this major development. Job summary

Public Health England (PHE) Digital is looking for a motivated, experienced and knowledgeable digital professional to support teams in PHE to build great products and services that improve people’s lives and serve the public good.

  • You need to have a passion to make life easier and better. In this role you will support the delivery of brilliant digital services to the public, to public health professionals, and to PHE staff. By championing user-centred design and agile delivery methods user needs, you will support teams in PHE to deliver quick, creative digital solutions to complex and interesting problems.
  • Together with other team members you will implement, monitor and review our roadmap and assurance of digital projects, ensuring PHE’s digital activity aligns with the direction set by the Government Digital Service and Department of Health.
  • You will help tell our story, through writing blog posts, coordinating speakers for events and doing proactive communications work.

This work will involve substantial external engagement, including joint working, regular presenting, and working closely with colleagues in other organisations. You will build strong, productive relationships with the Department of Health Digital Team and Government Digital Service. You will play key role in ensuring that PHE’s digital projects meet the Government Digital Service Standard.

Excellent influencing skills along with excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential to this role. You’ll need to build productive relationships with people and support them through digital project activities.

With the rest of the team, you will be leading a change within PHE to developing digital services based on what users need and working in an agile way.

The post holder will have significant experience and knowledge of digital technologies with sound content experience and a track record of delivery in a digital environment.

The PHE Digital team blends expertise from private and Government sectors and working with a wide range of partners and suppliers. We deliver services that meet and maintain the Government Digital Service (GDS) Digital by Default Service Standard
