Occupational Therapy Assistant

£17,652 to £19,020 per an

37.5 hours per week including weekends and bank holidays

The Therapy service within the Specialist Neurological Rehabilitation Unit (SNRU) based at the Leicester General Hospital, is delighted to have the opportunity to recruit a full-time Occupational Therapy Assistant to work within the Therapy team on this highly specialised unit.

The successful candidate will work very closely with the Occupational Therapists, assisting them to assess and treat neurologically impaired clients who are undergoing active rehabilitation. This unit accepts referrals from the acute wards within the University Hospitals of Leicester and often has patients within the unit who have significant cognitive impairment due to their brain injury, and who may also present with challenging behaviour as a result of that brain injury. Patients within the unit undertake goal-orientated rehabilitation, and their improvement is measured using validated outcome measures.

The Occupational Therapists within the SNRU work very closely with the Physiotherapists to insure the patient receives the very best collaborative care.

The successful candidate will be expected to participate in a competency-based training programme to allow them to carry out particular treatment techniques with clients under the guidance and supervision of a qualified Occupational Therapist. They will also be expected to carry out administration tasks and general cleaning duties within the Therapy team.

The successful candidate will be expected to work at the weekend, this will be as part of a roster and the duty will be worked at Leicester Royal Infirmary. When working at the weekend, staff are expected to take a day off in one of the subsequent weeks to compensate them for having worked at the weekend.
