We are looking for Team Administration to be part of a ground-breaking new team, improving the lives of forensic mental health service users.

Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust has been chosen by NHS England to pioneer a new approach to support forensic service users in the community instead of in secure hospitals, in the form of a Specialist Community Forensic Team (SCFT). This can improve quality of life, health outcomes and reduce inequality. Other teams in the programme have spoken of how this work has had a “genuine impact on service users’ lives”, along with the ability to “instil hope” and “witness real life changes”.

This role is a rare chance to shape a new service, providing opportunities to develop your skills and your career. You will work to enhance the transition of service users out of secure settings, deliver care and treatment, and support their ongoing recovery in the community. The SCFT will provide care coordination and intensive multidisciplinary and multi-agency input, for as long as is needed.

The successful candidate will be supported with their professional and leadership development, through high quality professional supervision. All members of the new team will benefit from an extensive professional and training development programme over the first year, delivered as part of the national programme, and benefit from a range of learning and development events through the first year as the new model is rolled out. We are aiming for this team to be an exemplar of well-being for staff, to support them to deliver outstanding care.

To provide the support required, the specialist community forensic team is a new kind of multi-disciplinary team. Its key features include:

  • Relatively low caseloads, given the intensity and complexity of the work. Each care coordinator within the team is likely to have a caseload of around 8-10 service users.
  • A clear pathway to provide 24/7 crisis response, although standard operating hours will be [e.g. 9am-6pm, Monday to Friday].
  • Specialist forensic assessment and case management.
  • Integration of trained peer support workers within the team.
  • Use of evidence-based psychosocial interventions known to support forensic service users.
  • Integration of substance misuse support.
  • Training and support for Third Sector accommodation providers to ensure successful outcomes for service users.
  • High quality reflective practice

    The creation of the team is being funded by NHS England, as part of a nationwide network intended to develop the model and demonstrate its effectiveness. The team will cover Sheffield, and following evaluation we will want to develop similar approaches across the rest of South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw.
