Online applications are invited to apply for a Trainee Breast Clinician commencing before April 2020 at Princess Anne hospital. This post is fixed term for 3 years.

This post is part of a national pilot project developed by The Royal College of Radiologists and the Association of Breast Clinicians, and part funded by Health Education England. The aim is to train breast clinicians to a national, standardised curriculum covering all the relevant aspects of clinical skills, risk analysis and radiology necessary to become an independent doctor working in breast screening and symptomatic practice. The training will follow a formalised three-year training path. Upon successful completion of the training, a certified credential will be awarded by the Royal College of Radiologists, equipping breast clinicians with the necessary skills to lead screening services and family history clinics and work in symptomatic clinics.

ABOUT THE TEAM

The breast unit at PAH provides comprehensive, integrated and innovative imaging and surgical services for the local symptomatic population and hosts the Southampton and Salisbury breast screening programme. A team of experienced and enthusiastic consultants provide training for Wessex specialty trainees and the department benefits from educational, academic and research links with the Royal College of Radiologists, Breast Imaging Academy, Association of Breast Surgeons and the University of Southampton. You will join a friendly and dedicated multi-disciplinary team, including consultant radiologists, consultant surgeons, breast care nurses and advanced practitioners from nursing and radiographic backgrounds, in providing high quality care.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

This role will provide:

  • Comprehensive training in clinical and imaging aspects of symptomatic and screening breast disease management
  • Training aligned with the RCR certified breast clinician credential

Support from the Wessex FRCR part 1 physics course and National Breast Imaging Academy e-learning

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who can demonstrate an interest in breast disease management.

The successful applicant should have:

  • Excellent communication skills and team working
  • Prior experience of working in the NHS

Prior clinical experience, preferably of breast disease management

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Appointment will be made under local contractual terms and conditions of service for Trust appointed (non-training fellow doctors and dentists).

Grades for Trust appointed (non-training) fellows will be paid a basic salary at a nodal pay point linked to the grade, at the rate set out in the National Medical and Dental pay circular. Basic salary detailed below plus any additional remuneration (as applicable) for hours set out in the doctors work schedule (e.g. additional hours, weekend allowance, and any hours which attract enhanced pay)

Travelling expenses will not be paid for attending interview

Please note that GMC registration (with a licence to practice) and right to work in the UK are essential for this role. Successful applicants will already have GMC registration or will be able to demonstrate they are eligible. Applicants requiring Tier 2 sponsorship should ensure they meet the Home Office application criteria prior to submitting an application.
