Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest NHS teaching trusts in the country. It provides a wide range of general and specialist clinical services and is a base for medical education, training and research.

The Trust comprises four hospitals - the John Radcliffe Hospital, Churchill Hospital and Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Headington and the Horton General Hospital in Banbury.

Our values, standards and behaviours define the quality of clinical care we offer and the professional relationships we make with our patients, colleagues and the wider community. We call this Delivering Compassionate Excellence and its focus is on our values of compassion, respect, learning, delivery, improvement and excellence. These values put patients at the heart of what we do and underpin the quality healthcare we would like for ourselves or a member of our family. Watch how we set out to deliver compassionate excellence via the OUH YouTube channel.

Many of our recruitment programmes use Value Based Interviewing to identify those who have the skills we seek, who share our values and who are able to deliver compassionate excellence from the outset. We know that this makes a significant difference to your job satisfaction and above all the outcomes and experience of our patients and their families.

OXFORD UNIVERSITY HOSPITALS NHS FOUNDATION TRUST
RADIOTHERAPY PHYSICS GROUP

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a new senior engineer/technologist to join our Radiotherapy Technical Services (RTS) team. The post holder will be mainly responsible for two Varian True-Beam linacs in our new Great Western Hospital (GWH) satellite unit in Swindon. Building of the satellite unit starts in Spring 2020 and is planned to open in Spring/Summer 2021. As well as the two linacs there is a CT planning suite, with close ties to the host centre in Oxford. We are looking to recruit to this post now as a linac replacement programme will be underway in Oxford in 2020, so the postholder will initially be working with our team in Oxford before their role starts in Swindon.

The Oxford Cancer Centre in the Churchill Hospital has six multi-mode Varian linacs, GE CT scanner, Aria and Eclipse TPS and HDR brachytherapy unit under a PFI Managed Equipment Service, plus prostate seed brachytherapy. Also we have implemented SRS/SRT with ExacTrac imaging, SABR under CtE, breath-hold, MIRADA auto-contouring and transmission dosimetry. Planned developments include breast IMRT, adaptive radiation therapy based on in-treatment imaging, procurement and testing of a 3D printer, introduction of new treatment planning algorithms and development of MIRADA AI-based contouring. There are close links with the CRUK/MRC Oxford Institute for Radiation Oncology and Biology, and an expanding portfolio of clinical trials

The post holder role in Swindon will be to provide scheduled preventative maintenance, servicing, repair, calibration, safety testing and quality assurance on both Varian True-beam linacs. The post holder will have a strong background in electronics and is required to work to high standards of safety and accountability. Knowledge of linear accelerators would be advantageous but full manufacturer’s training will be provided.
