Applications are invited for an enthusiastic Microbiology Biomedical Scientist with an in depth knowledge of medical microbiology, to provide technical and operational leadership for the department. Applicants must be HCPC registered Biomedical Scientists with an IBMS specialist portfolio in microbiology and hold a higher degree (or equivalent) in microbiology. Individuals with virology or general microbiology candidates are welcome to apply. 

Your work will ensure that the department delivers a high quality, timely and effective service where patient experience and patient safety is central. The successful applicant will be an excellent communicator who enjoys working in a busy, complex environment with an ability to manage multiple priorities, and achieve tight deadlines.
The role will require the post holder to be flexible and highly organised, be able to align their values with those of the organisation, have the ability to delegate effectively and to work as part of a team with a ‘can do’ positive attitude.

We are a busy department with a wide ranging repertoire of diagnostic testing and currently process approximately 480,000 tests per year. A comprehensive knowledge of Microbiology would be required and you would be joining a friendly and dedicated team of scientists working within pathology.

The department currently utilises the following equipment: Vitek2, BacT/Alert (TB & blood culture systems), IQ200 Sprint, Hologic Panther and Diasorin Liaison XL. However, as part of our development we are in the process of updating much of this equipment with current technology as well as augmenting this with technology such as MALDI-TOF and molecular based systems.

Broomfield Hospital is District General Hospital with a busy Emergency Department, an internationally renowned Regional Burns Unit and Plastic Surgery Unit as well as a busy Renal Unit. The Trust serves a population of approximately 350,000 residents across Mid Essex. 

We operate a routine diagnostic service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The successful candidate must be prepared to participate in a shift working pattern, which includes weekend and Bank Holiday working as well as an on call "Out of Hours" service.

MEHT contracts are subject to the completion of a satisfactory 6 month probationary period.

All Registered Nurse/Midwife/Theatre Practitioner or ODP you will be required to take a Drug Calculation Test. (please note 100% pass mark required)

All HCA/HCSW/MCA will be required to take a Literacy and Numeracy test (80% pass required) as part of the pre employment process.
