Mid and South Essex health and social care organisations serve a population of around 1.2 million people. Within the health system currently, there are three acute hospitals trusts including Basildon & Thurrock University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Mid Essex Hospitals NHS Trust and Southend University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust with a combined income of c£945 million. Recognising that greater collaboration across this part of Essex is required to solve long standing financial, quality and operational challenges, agreement was reached in a number of stages since 2017 to work in an increasingly collaborative way between the Trusts to undertake the reconfiguration of clinical services, supported by an "in common" governance and leadership structure. Since early 2017 we have benefitted from a single executive team across the three organisations. Since January 2019, all of our Trust Boards and our committees meet "in common" only as a matter of course.

In January 2018, the Trust Boards with support from commissioners and from our regulators including NHS Improvement, to pursue a merger of the three organisations. Subject to regulatory approval, we will merge in April 2020 to become Mid & South Essex University Hospitals – a new single organisation, having university teaching and NHS foundation trust status. The new organisation presents an ideal opportunity for you to take a leading and influential role both internally and externally within a health and social care system

Here at Southend University Hospital we strive to provide high quality care for every patient, every time.

We would be nothing without our staff. So it goes without saying that when it comes to recruiting new team members, we're looking for the best. We encourage staff to be innovative, to challenge the "as is" and to always put patients first.

We want staff who will live our trust values every day.

Care with compassion, Working together, Professional and accountable

Three mid and south east Essex Acute trusts are operating within a rapidly changing, challenging but very exciting time of whole system reformation. The Trusts are in partnership as a fast developing hospital network currently comprising of Southend University Hospital NHS FT, Basildon and Thurrock University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Mid Essex Hospital NHS Trust (the MSE Group). Over the next few years, through working together, they will define the future of care for the population of mid and south Essex.

As part of this acute trust collaboration we are redesigning our hospitals to ensure we meet rising demand with the best quality services. The Pharmacy Department is at the forefront of our service redesign and one of the first departments within the MSE Group to offer the opportunities for developing standardised systems across the three hospitals, re-designing new and ongoing services as the clinical configuration changes in line with the Carter Report. This is all being led by a chief pharmacist working in partnership across the group.

Do you want to be at the forefront of clinical pharmacy innovation?
Can you work with autonomy and motivation within a dedicated speciality?

If so, we want you to join our innovative and enthusiastic team of senior Clinical Pharmacists.

Our Trust has recognised the essential role of clinical pharmacy with significant investment in the urgent and emergency care pathways over the past 2 years, supporting Trust-wide transformation of its services. Most recently this has included pharmacy staff working in Emergency Department for the first time.

Supported by our excellent pharmacy team, the post-holder will enjoy a role fully integrated into the multidisciplinary ward speciality teams within the admissions units. This will require strong prioritisation and time management skills to enable you to work efficiently and effectively.

Southend Hospital is the first in Essex to implement electronic prescribing, using the JAC system, and we are at the forefront of developing and enhancing this system within the NHS. With excellent communication skills, you will play a key role in ensuring the admissions speciality derives maximum benefit from e-Prescribing and the opportunities it provides to deliver true medicines optimisation.

Our department actively supports staff development and you will be given the opportunity to further develop your leadership and management skills. Prescribing is a key part of the role, therefore you will be given the opportunity to undertake this training. As a senior clinical pharmacist, you will be expected to support education and training of more junior staff including pre-registration pharmacists.

This is advertised as a band 7 post but we would consider offering on a band 6 basis depending on experience.
