Pathology Porter with Pathology First

£17,652 to £19,020 per annum

We are seeking a Porter to liaise with all laboratory managers and technical staff and perform duties as necessary to maintain an excellent service within Pathology First.We have laboratories in the Bentalls Business Park in Basildon, and Laboratories in both Basildon and Thurrock University Hospital and Southend University Hospital. Successful applicants will be rostered across all three sites.

Main Duties:

  • The area of responsibility is the Dirty Utility Room, the Autoclave Room and Stores areas; ensuring that cleanliness and tidiness are maintained in the working environment at all times. This includes dealing with spillages.
  • To collect and accept deliveries of all Pathology Laboratory Stores and distribution to the relevant laboratories as required.
  • To receipt stock into the computer using the “Axional” Software, print labels and label stocks to enable tracking.
  • Participate in stock takes and stock rotation to ensure good stock control with no wastage of goods
  • To print and send Pathology sample request forms to surgeries on a monthly basis ensuring that their demands are met at all times.
  • To collect blood samples from wards as required and deliver to Specimen Reception.
  • To undertake sterilisation procedures for Microbiology Department samples.
  • To maintain levels of blood culture packs, ensuring there are adequate packs made up to meet demands.

The successful candidates will:

  • Be able to travel to all Pathology First sites
  • Have a general level of education
  • Have the ability to carry out instructions
  • Be able to take and pass on messages accurately and timely
  • Recognise the need for confidentiality and maintain patient confidentiality, respect and dignity
  • Be polite and respectful to all patients, visitors and fellow members of staff
  • Be clean/tidy and maintain high personal hygiene at all times
  • Get on well with people at all levels
