An opportunity has arisen for an experienced senior occupational therapist to join the OT service on Talygarn ward, county hospital, Pontypool.

Talygarn ward is an acute, adult mental health ward, offering assessment and treatment to people aged 18 and over who live in the Torfaen and Monmouthshire.

The post holder will be required to use Occupational Therapy assessments and interventions to inform the overall assessment and recovery plan of service users admitted to the ward. The occupational focused 'Recovery Through Activity' programme is established on the ward and the use of MOHO assessment tools and underpinning theory is currently being developed in practice across the OT service.

The post holder will work with a ward team of nursing, medical and psychology staff and will directly supervise a band 5 Occupational Therapist (rotational post) and an occupational therapy support worker. The ward OT team has developed excellent links with local Third Sector organisations and community resource in order to promote opportunities to engage in meaningful occupation.

The post is also part of a wider network and professional structure of Occupational Therapists across Adult Mental Health in the Health Board area and there are regular practice forums and workshop opportunities to drive occupational therapy development in in-patient, community and specialist settings. A wide variety of training opportunities are available in the health board and the Occupational Therapy service is committed to student education and practice development in order to ensure best practice standards to support our service users.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
