Band 6 Physiotherapist (37.5 hours per week; 2.00 WTE; full time; permanent)

Rotational (Watford General/St Albans City Hospitals /West Hertfordshire Therapy Unit, Abbots Langley)

This is an exciting opportunity to progress your Physiotherapy career within our well established and dynamic Therapy Service. This rotational post offers interested candidates experience in the acute hospital and outpatient setting in varied rotations such as: A&E/Acute Admissions Unit, Frailty, Care of the Elderly, Medical, Respiratory (incl ITU), Surgical (inc amputees), Orthopaedics (elective and trauma), Reablement, Stroke, and MSK outpatients.

Each of our Therapy teams are supported by a robust Senior tier with a wealth of experience to help guide and support post holders in individual learning needs but also to strive to ensure that the best standards of care are provided. A well established probationary, supervision and appraisal process is in place to help facilitate this. In-Service training opportunities are also offered and experience will be gained in student education and the supervision of assistants, where appropriate. There are also opportunities for course funding both internally and externally.

West Hertfordshire NHS Trust is a busy acute district general hospital with most of the main caseload now centralised at the Watford General Hospital site (apart from our elective Orthopaedic service and reablement ward which is based at St Albans City Hospital; and our MSK outpatient service based at Abbots Langley). As a trust we have a busy Accident and Emergency department and one of the largest Acute Assessment Units. This will allow post-holders to gain experience in rapid therapy assessment to help support patients to the most appropriate place of care, as well as participate in avoidance of admission pathways. We have a Frailty Unit service where Therapists offer appropriately identified patients (utilising the Rockwood Clinical Frailty Scale/Score) comprehensive geriatric assessments.

We have a 19 bedded ITU unit. We additionally have a prestigious Care of the Elderly Delirium Recovery Pathway, with Dementia and Delirium specialist therapists in both Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy who can help develop and support, our Band 5’s and 6’s, with any complex patients in the acute setting.

Our services are provided over 7 days and post would be included in weekend rotas (frequency of 1:6 weekends) with rest days in the following week. In addition, post holders are subject to the evening respiratory on-call roster. This is underpinned by a competency framework.

Watford General Hospital is within easy walking distance of the Metropolitan line (underground) and London Midland overland Train at Watford Junction Station, which is a 20 minute journey away from London Euston. Car drivers also have easy access via main motorways.

We are also surrounded by picturesque villages, bustling towns, great shopping, bars and restaurants.
