Consultant Psychiatrist – Adult Eating Disorders

Somerset Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (Sompar) is seeking to appoint a Consultant Psychiatrist in Adult Eating Disorders to this newly created post. Sompar recognises the increase in need for senior psychiatric support for adult eating disorders in Somerset, and as a result has created a whole county post.

The post holder will not be expected to hold all of the case load for the whole county, but instead act in an advisory and expert role, to help in managing complex cases and provide medical leadership to the ED Service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct interventions to patients, including the psychiatric and medical assessments of patients, and formulation of complex cases with medical and psychiatric needs.
  • Risk assessment and management for the medical and psychiatric component of the disorder
  • Taking a leading role in the monitoring and treatment of physical conditions of eating disorders, in collaboration with other healthcare professionals
  • Liaison with acute hospital consultants, general practitioners and acute and liaison psychiatric consultants.
  • Treating and monitoring of psychiatric aspects of eating disorders, including core psychopathology and psychiatric comorbidities.
  • Prescribing which extends beyond usual psychiatric formulary and appropriately monitoring medications according to relevant NICE guidelines.
  • Using the Mental Health Act as appropriate in the management of eating disorders and general psychiatry.
  • Decide on the most appropriate treatment setting - in or out patient care

 

On Call:

  • The Consultant is expected to take part in the Section 12 - 9am-5pm rota. The out of hour’s rota attracts an additional 1PA payment.

 

Requirements:

  • Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT
  • Experience in adult psychiatry and eating disorders
  • Section 12 approval MHA
