The Clinical Pharmacy Team is an embedded function within the newly established Leeds GP Confederation which represents all 96 GP practices in Leeds. The post holder will be expected to provide medicines optimisation support across the city, working within general practice to expand the role of the pharmacy technician within primary care to make general practice more sustainable and improve outcomes for patients.

 

Our pharmacy technicians provide evidence-based cost effective prescribing support services across Leeds, working together to reduce variation in prescribing, improve medicines safety and use and to ensure patients get the most from their medicines. Applicants should have some post-registration experience of working as a pharmacy technician in any sector. An enthusiastic approach to medicines optimisation is required for this role with a desire to develop the pharmacy technician remit across the pharmacy system. The post holder will also support the pharmacy agenda in Primary Care Networks (groups of GP practices) providing medicines optimisation services, including the interpretation of complex prescribing data to effect change in prescribing habits, medication safety audits and improvements and prescribing quality improvement amongst a variety of other medicines-related services.

Pharmacy in Leeds is supporting cross-sector and integrated working of pharmacy staff and in addition to the above duties, an exciting opportunity to move between pharmacy sectors in Leeds is being built into this post; this will allow the post holder to experience rotations in the Leeds Teaching Hospital Trust as part of their role, therefore recent experience of dispensing would be beneficial. Applicants should have excellent communication and inter-personal skills and have experience of working in multidisciplinary teams. Demonstrable experience of protocol development would be welcomed and good IT skills are necessary. A working knowledge of GP clinical systems would be an advantage. The post-holder will be required to travel on a regular basis between GP practices and healthcare premises in Leeds.
