The role of the External Communications Officer is to support the External Communications Manager with the promotion and protection of the reputation of the Trust with the media, patients and external stakeholders through corporate communications, press and social media, public relations and stakeholder management.

The postholder will be responsible for supporting the implementation of a programme of planned proactive communications to ensure effective communication and engagement with patients, the media and stakeholders. They will be responsible for responding to media enquiries and requests and facilitating briefings, press conferences and VIP visits and managing the Trust’s response to Freedom of Information requests.

They will also work with the Communications Manager in the development of an engaging social media programme and use creative content as a way of generating key audiences in the work of the Trust. The postholder will need to be highly credible and able to deputise for the External Communications Manager. They will be confident with excellent influencing skills and be able to work with a wide range of colleagues both within the Trust and with partner health and social care organisations.
