Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals (BSUH) Trust is the regional teaching hospital working across two sites: the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton and Princess Royal Hospital, Haywards Heath.

We provide general acute services to the general populations in the City of Brighton and Hove and in Mid Sussex and more specialist and tertiary services for patients across Sussex and the south coast of England.

We are looking for an enthusiastic rehabilitation assistant for our regional hyper-acute and acute stroke unit, Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton.

You would be part of a therapy team consisting of OT, PT, SLT, Psychology and Dietetics. There is a specialist band 7 Occupational Therapist, specialist band 7 Physiotherapist and a clinical specialist 8a Physio therapist to support the team, training and service development.

The unit treats hyper acute and acute stroke patients from Brighton and Hove, and Mid Sussex .

The unit works closely with Sussex Rehabilitation Centre at Princess Royal Hospital, Haywards Heath, and the community stroke neuro teams across East Sussex, West Sussex and Brighton and Hove.

Work will primarily involve:

  • Carrying out treatment plans devised by the Occupational Therapists or Physiotherapists.
  • Assisting the therapists in treatment of patients with physical or cognitive impairments / challenging behaviour / communication difficulties
  • To issue daily living equipment and demonstrate its use as agreed by an Occupational Therapist
  • To instruct patients in the use of walking aids and provide advice to patients and carers regarding safety issues associated with walking aids according to BSUH protocols
  • To assist in basic stock checks, equipment ordering and cleaning and maintenance of equipment
  • General administrative duties
  • Attending Staff Meetings and In-Service Training Sessions

The post would include being part of the rostered seven day working.

There are other Rehabilitation Assistants employed by the Trust; providing opportunity for peer support and peer learning.
