NHS Wales Informatics Service have an opportunity for a motivated and technically minded individual to join the Data Centre Services (DCS) team. The team comprises a number of sub teams focused on specific technologies. These teams include Server & Storage, SQL, Citrix, Linux and Cloud team. This position is a development opportunity for someone interested in learning Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops.

Ideal candidate
The ideal candidate will have an interest in delivering applications using Citrix and be willing to commit to developing their Citrix Virtual Apps & Desktop Skills over a period of 12-18 months. The successful candidate will be able to transition from a Infrastructure Operations Support Technician to a Senior IT Specialist subject to sufficient evidence of development.

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the following in their application and at interview:-

  • An understanding of the benefits of streaming applications / desktops to users.
  • A high level understanding of the components of Citrix Virtual Apps & Desktops.
  • Experience of using Active Directory for identity and group management.
  • An understanding the purpose of load balancing.
  • A good understanding of the ITIL Practices that apply to infrastructure operations.

The successful candidate will:-

  • Be responsible for responding service requests and incidents for the Citrix Team.
  • Liaising with application support teams to resolve service issues .
  • Ensure problems and changes are documented and continually updated and resolved where possible for Citrix Platforms.
  • Continually develop and learn new skills for Citrix Virtual Apps & Desktop's.
  • Work well alone and as part of a team.
  • take pride in their work
  • get satisfaction from contributing to the resolution of complex issues.
  • want to make a difference to the NHS in Wales.
  • want to get involved with the latest technologies.
  • Be interested in job security tied to a good salary and pension bundle.


  • ITIL Foundation
  • Ideally, candidates should have or be working toward a degree or have equivalent experience within an IT infrastructure environment.
