Are you a highly skilled Practice Nurse looking for an exciting and rewarding role working in a friendly and professional organisation? Defence Primary Health Care (DPHC) have 2 vacancies, 1 full time and 1 part time for 18.5 hours per week, for a Band 5 Nurse based at Sir John Moore Barracks, Andover Road, Winchester, Hampshire, SO22 6NQ.

The Nurse (MRS & GP Practice) will work as part of a multi disciplinary primary healthcare team delivering general medical services and elements of occupational health to military personnel on visiting the Medical Centre; and 24hr general nursing care whilst in-patients within the Medical Reception Station.

The Nurse (MRS & GP Practice) is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care needs; medical screening and advising patients within their professional competence in line with current policy, guidelines and utilising agreed evidence based practice. This will be on a 24hr basis whilst working in the MRS.Out of hours they will undertake triage of patients.

Duties of the role include, but are not limited to:

  • For Patients with relatively stable health needs, providing appropriate assessment of their needs, developing individual plans of care. Implementing and evaluating individual planned programmes of care.
  • Providing technical nursing treatments to include: venepuncture, cannulation, ECG recording, eye and ear care, wound management: dressings, suture removal, and assisting the MO/CMP with minor surgery.
  • Providing advice to patients on minor ailments and general health.
  • Out of hours be able to provide first aid in emergency situations until paramedics/ambulance services arrive.
  • Contributing towards preventative health programmes and health screening: opportunist and agreed. Assisting with and delivering health promotion clinics to include smoking cessation, diet, alcohol and sexual health in support of policy and guidelines.
  • Participating in the care of patients with chronic diseases e.g. asthma, diabetes, hypertension ensuring the chronic disease register is maintained.
  • Supporting and assisting with the implementation of the practice development plan.

Qualifications and Memberships

The successful applicant will need to show evidence of the following;

  • Professional/ clinical knowledge acquired through training to degree/diploma level.
  • Valid registration with the NMC.

There is no requirement to deploy as this is met by our uniformed personnel but you will form the continuity of care required by our patients when based at home.

Please be aware that if you are found successful you will be asked to provide evidence of your immunity to Hepatitis B.
