We provide a high quality range of acute care services and employ over 6,000 staff, who serve a population of approximately 400,000 people across Wirral, Ellesmere Port, Neston, North Wales and the wider North West footprint.

We have approximately 855 beds trust-wide and our financial turnover is in excess of £337m.

The Wirral is easily accessible to major airports and has excellent transport links including motorway, train, bus or ferry and within easy reach to the major cities of Liverpool, Chester and Manchester as well as neighbouring North Wales.


This is a 12 month Fixed term post in the first instance but extension is available if of interest.

Wirral University Teaching Hospital is the Mersey South Urology Cancer Centre which provides complex surgery (including robotics) for the catchment areas of Wirral, Chester, Warrington and Isle of Man. The Department also offers a wide range of benign urology services. Major surgery takes place at Arrowe Park Hospital and day case surgery at Clatterbridge Hospital.

The post holder will join the existing team of nine Consultants, an associate specialist, supported by two Clinical Fellows, 2 other middle grade level doctors in the department, a urology-themed CST, 3 F1s and both an oncology and benign specialist nursing team. The work will involve working with the consultants in a variety of sub-specialities on a rotational basis, including on-calls. Contribution to the on-call rota would be 1 in 6, week days and weekends. There is a busy general urology practice and all consultants sub specialise.

We are seeking to appoint a Speciality Doctor.

The post is configured to provide predominantly training but interest in research is strongly encouraged. It would be suitable for a post-CST trainee wishing to gain further experience prior to taking over a robotic surgical post or for an existing Speciality Doctor wishing to develop a portfolio prior to application for CESR.

Applicants are invited to apply for this new appointment to cover core clinical activities in the Urology department, outpatient clinics and partake in the 1:6 middle grade on-call rotas, with non-resident overnight cover on Fri, Sat & Sun. The rota is fully compliant with Working Time Regulations and the post attracts 10PA.

The initial appointment will be for a period of 6 months with a possibility of further extension if desired. Salary will be on the SAS scale, tailored to the experience and seniority of the successful candidate. Applicants must be registered with the GMC.
