Band 6 - Specialist Biomedical Scientist

We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to join the Cellular Pathology Department as a Specialist Biomedical Scientist. Applications are invited from Biomedical Scientists who are HCPC registered, who have successfully completed a specialist portfolio in Histopathology and who have post registration experience within histology.

Once competent the post holder will be required to work Saturday and to participate in the on call rota.

The Department provides a Histopathology and Ctyology service for Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust. We have one permanent full time post based at St James University Hospital, but you may be required to rotate to other sisters and sections.

The department is well equipped, fully computerised, accredited to ISO15189 and is accredited by the IBMS as a training laboratory.

We process cira 56,000 surgical cases, 2,000 autopsy cases, and 5000 non-gynaecological cytology cases per annum.

The post is suitable for someone who is highly motivated, enthusiastic and a good team worker. Experience of histology laboratory techniques is essential.

If you are offered a position, you may be required to undertake a DBS. The Trust will administer the DBS check on your behalf and will recover the cost (Enhanced £48 or Standard £30) from your salary over a 3 month period (including Internal staff). You will also be required to participate in the DBS Update Service and pay the £13 cost per year. This is a condition of your employment. DBS checks for volunteers are free.
