About our Trust

Our Trust is rated as ‘Outstanding for Caring’ by the CQC – fundamental to this is the way that we value and respect our staff. At every level, we value the diversity of our colleagues and actively champion an inclusive culture. We believe that everyone without exception should feel free to be their authentic self in the workplace.

We understand that work is only one part of life. We are committed to helping our colleagues achieve the best possible work/life balance. We proudly offer supportive, inclusive and family friendly employment and flexible working policies. We have a wide range of professional services and employee networks to help our colleagues be at their best - and find support if they need it.

Our Trust is already a Disability Confident employer and we are holding ourselves to account through the Workplace Disability Equality Standard (WDES). Our work on promoting equity and inclusion for our Black, and Minority Ethnic (BME) colleagues continues to be driven by engagement with the WRES (Workforce Race Equality Standard) and the WRES Experts Programme.

In 2019, we committed ourselves to becoming a Stonewall Top 100 LGBTQ+ Employer. We also support the national ‘Veteran Aware’ scheme and are an ERS Gold accredited Hospital who welcomes applications from all members of the Armed Forces communities.

For our patients, we do everything we can to deliver fair access to all our services. This includes providing interpretative and other services to meet the needs of disabled communities. We're careful to show sensitivity towards ethnic, cultural and religious differences. Our staff uphold these values and so help our care to get better all the time.

We have a great opportunity for a responsible, logical and methodical individual to join our well established and experienced team of Ward Clerks.

This is Part time position where the candidate will be based in our Newhaven ward providing a focused ward administration service within the Clinical Administration Inpatients department at the Newhaven

Your working days and hours will be discussed at interview Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday including Bank Holidays if these fall within your shift pattern. Please ensure that you are available to work for these dates and times before applying as flexibility is limited given the demands of the service.

You will be working in direct or semi direct contact with inpatients, relatives and a multidisciplinary team of nurses, doctors, physiotherapists or pharmacists amongst other professionals. You will be one of the first faces our patients and relatives will see when they first walk into our hospital, and you will be dealing with queries face-to-face, on the phone and via email. For this reason the post holder will have excellent communication and spelling skills alongside the ability to multi task and remain calm under pressure.

Your main focus will be Data Entry: capturing patient’s demographics, ensuring the efficient and timely admission, transfer and discharge of patients into our PAS Oasis (PAS System C Medway from October 2018), dealing with patients’ medical notes and being responsible for the accurate and timely input of information into our PAS system for the purposes of patient care and data quality.

The role includes a wide range of general administration tasks including working with PAS Oasis (PAS System C Medway from October 2018), Outlook, Excel, Word, Spine Portal, Bloodhound or Panda. Previous experience on our systems is not required as training will be provided, however computer literacy and good knowledge of Microsoft Office is a must.

Successful candidates will be honest, confident and successful when prioritising their workload.

You will be required to have a good level of education and have experience in administration and clerical duties with good customer service. Previous experience within a hospital setting is not a must but it is an advantage.

You will need to be able to work as part of a team, but also be able to work unsupervised, using your own initiative and reporting skills. You will have excellent organisational and time keeping skills, which are essential for this position.
