Consultant Post – General Surgery with an interest in emergency services 

The Great Western Hospital is planning a significant expansion of the General Surgery Department.  This is a new post and the appointment is the first of those intended to reinforce the provision of emergency services in anticipation of a major re-development of the Surgical Assessment Unit. 


In addition the successful candidate will be encouraged to develop a personal interest.


The Trust serves a population of 360,000 and offers a comprehensive range of specialist services including Colorectal, Breast and Upper GI Surgery. The successful candidate will hold a current CCT or be within 6 months of obtaining their CCT.

The Trust provides acute services to Swindon and the surrounding areas (catchment 360,000) and community services to Wiltshire (catchment 750,000).

All new starters with the Trust will be subject to a six month probationary period, with the exception of medical and dental candidates.

Current employees should be aware that this position is advertised as a GWH position and appointment ends any TUPE protection.

All candidates are required to pay for their own DBS check where applicable. Standard DBS check costs £26 and will be recovered from your first pay; Enhanced DBS check costs £44 and will be split and recovered over the first 2 pay.

Bank posts requiring a DBS check; payment must be made prior to commencing.

Apprentices are exempt from payment.
